Brazilian Flamengo will face Mexico's Pyramids this Saturday in a bid to secure a spot in the final of the Intercontinental Cup, held in Qatar.
The match, scheduled for 14:00 Argentina time, will be covered live by the Argentine News Agency. It will take place at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in the city of Al Rayyan and will be available to watch via FIFA+, with Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al-Jassim officiating.
Flamengo, coached by Filipe Luiz, qualified for the Intercontinental Cup thanks to its title in the Libertadores, which also made it the most decorated Brazilian team in the competition with four titles.
In their Intercontinental Cup debut, Flamengo defeated Cruz Azul of Mexico 2-1, with a brace from Uruguayan Giorgian de Arrascaeta, one of its star players. This victory also earned the Brazilian team the title of the America's Derby.
Pyramids, on the other hand, had a much longer journey to the semi-finals, having to play two preliminary rounds. The African champion, coached by Croatian Krunoslav Jurcic, first thrashed Auckland City 3-0 in the Africa-Asia-Pacific playoff, that New Zealand side that had saved a draw against Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup, before beating Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli 3-1 in the quarter-finals, a victory that also secured them the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup.
The winner of this match between Flamengo and Pyramids will not only advance to the grand final, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain of France, but will also receive the trophy for the Challenger Cup champion.
Flamengo is going for its second title in the Intercontinental Cup. Its only coronation in this tournament was in 1981, when it defeated England's Liverpool 3-0 under the old format, which pitted the Copa Libertadores champion against the Champions League winner in a single final.
