Natural gas price surges another 45%

The price of natural gas continues to surge on Tuesday, recording a strong revaluation of 45% to exceed 63 dollars per megawatt hour (MWh), marking new highs since February 2025. The price of gas is rising sharply for the second consecutive day due to increased tensions in the Middle East and after Qatar Energy, a state-owned company from Qatar, suspended the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for security reasons following attacks on two of its facilities. Last Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran, which has responded with attacks on other regions and expanded the conflict across the Middle East. This has also sparked fears of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical point for oil and gas traffic. According to data from Bloomberg collected by EFE, at 11:30 local time (10:15 GMT), natural gas for delivery in one month on the Dutch TTF market, the benchmark in Europe, is up 45% to 63.13 dollars. On the previous day, the price of gas had already surged by more than 50%, although it ultimately closed the session with a 40.81% increase.
