Morgan Stanley warned that halting liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in Qatar, a key exporter, would wipe out most of the expected surplus for this year. Analysts at the bank, including Devin McDermott, said in a March 8 memo: 'A continued outage of LNG in Qatar for more than a month would quickly lead to a deficit.' It appears that Qatar's RasGas LNG plant, the world's largest, may be affected. Morgan Stanley had previously anticipated that the global LNG market, with a volume of about 420 million tons per year, would see a surplus of 6 million tons in 2026 with the start of new projects in the United States and elsewhere.
