Qatar and UAE Supply 20% of Global LNG, Creating Vulnerability for Asia

Qatar and the UAE supply the world with about 20% of liquefied natural gas. Kenneth Foo, global head of LNG pricing at energy data and analytics provider S&P Global Energy, warned that the growing dependence of Greater Asia on LNG supplies from the Middle East has become a major vulnerability. Supply disruptions are forcing countries to seek more expensive alternatives and change fuel sources. With ongoing supply constraints and rising costs of alternative shipping, energy-importing countries like India are facing increasing pressure due to limited stockpiles and their reliance on imported gas in vital sectors. Global LNG prices are expected to remain high.
